Back in Studio!

After a summer in Ontario working on southern images, it is a thrill to be back in my Yellowknife studio painting the animals that live in this incredible northern landscape.

These three new pieces are currently available at the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver. More to come!

WHERE THERE ARE NO ROADS

I will have my first solo exhibit in Ontario this August. "Where there are no roads" opens August 19th at Ayrspace Gallery in Ayr Ontario. The exhibit is a collection of Ontario images capturing my muskoka roots, as well as a series of northern classics like polar bears and caribou.

This exhibit will run August 19th to September 19th.

Arts Update!

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

It has been a long and busy winter in the studio. "ELEMENTS" opened march 1st at the CopperMoon Gallery in Whitehorse. A joint show with Rae Braden filled with powerful and moving northern imagery. (click on the gallery icon to see work from this show and what is still available in Whitehorse) With the arrival of spring it is time to shake things up a little bit. And Now For Something Completely Different! opens at The Gallery on 47th on June 17th. A joint show with 6 yellowknife artists and 1 room full of the unexpected. I will be stepping far outside the box to exhibit a collection of abstract pieces publicly for the first time!

This August I will have my first solo exhibit in Ontario, which will showcase my landscape/wildlife paintings with a southern twist. The show will be a mix of northern images as well as paintings that capture the landscape of my roots in the muskoka region. For a sneak peak of images from both shows click on the gallery icon.

The Evolution Exhibit was a huge success with somewhere in the region of 250 visitors. Not only was it a tremendous crowd over a wonderful two days, the show sold out. The only two remaining pieces are this Polar Bear (40x60), and the bison and wolves (24x36). Please contact me directly if you are interested in either piece. Thank you so much to everyone who came to see and experience the show. I am now taking a three month break with my new family and will be back in my studio in Jan 2011. Mahsi Cho everyone!

Spring Colours

It has been a long time since I have had the chance to add new work to the site. A whole new collection of paintings are in the works, spring has inspired me, the colour palet has changed. Check back soon I will be adding a new collection of spring and summer images to my flikr gallery.

I am back home in Yellowknife after a few months of travel. It feels great to be back in the north. The new studio is finished and officially open. It's inspiring to be working in it and lots of new works are coming to life. Please check out the Flikr Gallery on the right hand side of the blog to see more of the new work.

New Paintings from Ontario

I have been enjoying painting in Ontario for the past few months. Some of my new work definatly reflects this new environment, a treasure chest of inspiration with an entirely different spirit than the north.

I continue to be tied to the north in my heart, and my newest Raven paintings show that my spirit is never far from my northern home.

Great Northern Arts Festival, 2008

In July 2008 I attended the Great Northern Arts Festival in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. While there I sold 90% of the pieces I took with me, as well as what I painted there.

I was also recognized with an award for "Most promising emerging artist in 2 dimensional media"

Aurora Arts Society Art Contest

Trashformations Art Contest, Sept 2007
The Aurora Arts Society of Yellowknife challenged artists to make a piece of art using %80 recycled materials.

This glass mosaic was made from an old window frame, car windshields and broken bottles.
All the materials for the piece were salvaged at the Yellowknife Dump.

This piece won me first prize and two tickets to Edmonton with First Air.
